Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so it’s important to make sure you’re starting your day off with a nutritious and filling meal. These nine recipes are perfect for losing weight, as they’re all packed with healthy ingredients that will give you energy and help curb your appetite.
From smoothie bowls to stuffed sweet potatoes, there’s something for everyone on this list. And the best part is, all of these recipes can be made ahead of time, so you can enjoy a healthy breakfast even on busy mornings.
1. Avocado Toast with Egg
Avocado: Avocados are filled with healthy fats, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants and are a great addition to a well-balanced diet.
Bread: You can use any bread you like for these recipes. I like to use whole grain to get some more goodness in.
Seasonings: Salt and pepper added to taste.
Additions: Depending on how you choose to cook your eggs, you may need a little butter to add flavor or some vinegar to poach your eggs.
2. Egg-vegetable scramble
1 whole egg and 3 egg whites scrambled with any veggie combination (chopped tomatoes, onions, mushrooms, spinach, peppers, green beans, etc.) and 1 slice of whole grain toast OR 1 orange or half of a grapefruit.
3. Apple protein pancakes
½ cup quick cooking oats
4 egg whites
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
½ apple, skin on, finely diced
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 to 2 teaspoons chia seeds
4. Apple pie overnight oats
rolled oats – rolled oats are the best for overnight oats. Instant/quick oats and steel cut oats don’t work well because they don’t absorb liquid the same way rolled oats do.
apples – the star of show here. I like using Honeycrisp or Pink Lady apples, but any variety will work!
milk – I like using unsweetened vanilla almond milk, but any type of milk will work.
yogurt – you can use regular or non-dairy yogurt. I like using plain, but I recently tried using Siggi’s vanilla & cinnamon yogurt in this recipe and it was amazing. Highly recommend!
maple syrup – pure maple syrup is the perfect natural sweetener to use because it’s liquid so it blends in nicely with the oat mixture and I personally love the flavor. Honey or another natural liquid sweetener will work as well. If you want to reduce the sugar in this recipe, feel free to use a sugar alternative like stevia or monk fruit
vanilla – just a touch for added flavor!
cinnamon – or apple pie spice.
5. Greek yogurt parfait
Greek yogurt– I love using honey vanilla
Berries- Strawberries and blueberries
Almond granola– You can use plain or vanilla flavored
6. Energizing breakfast smoothie
ORANGE JUICE: two cups of orange juice; you can use your favorite kind of orange juice.
YOGURT: 1 cup of yogurt, I always have a big tube of vanilla yogurt but you can use any flavored yogurt.
VANILLA EXTRACT: just a small 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract really helps to bring out the flavors in the fruit!
7. Peanut butter berry sushi
Peanut butter, whole wheat tortilla, strawberries
8. Bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich
Craving a warm and hearty morning meal that will leave you feeling focused and energized? Lean egg whites, Canadian bacon, reduced-fat cheese, and a whole-grain English muffin are the secret ingredients in this slimming breakfast sandwich.
9. Blender strawberry protein pancakes
• ⅓ to ½ cup whole grain pancake/waffle mix*
• 1 cup of low-fat cottage cheese
• 2 eggs, lightly beaten
• 1 ripe large banana
• 1 tablespoon butter
• 1 cup thinly sliced fresh strawberries
• 2 to 3 teaspoons maple syrup (optional)
*If you don’t have pancake/waffle mix, you can use ⅓ to ½ cup all-purpose flour. If you want to make these gluten-free, use a gluten-free all-purpose flour or pancake/waffle mix.
